WELCOME TO GRANDMA'S LACE QUILTS

About Us

Patty and I came from a very large family and we lived in a time when most all of our clothes were hand sewn from hand-me-downs and our mother was very creative in making beautiful things for us. If the hand-me-downs were not made into clothes they were put into stuffed animals or quilts that were utilized to keep a family of twelve children warm.
We watched our mother create many beautiful items and place in the hands of those who were the fortunate recipients of such a precious gift. We loved to see the doilies and the many fun things that mom made by hand. In years gone by you could not go to the store and buy patterns for crocheting or afford the magazines filled with patterns and ideas sent to your home through the mail. And our mother and great grandmother could not read the instructions from patterns, but both had the gift to look at something and create it into a beautiful piece of art.
So our great grandmother made small samples of different crochet and tatting stitching, she taught our mother at an early age how to make them. Mom kept these in a small cloth bag with a drawstring and referred to them as her pattern book. She treasured her pattern book and kept it tucked away safe.
When our mother passed away we gathered her pattern book and some of her doilies that were hidden away in boxes and drawers. We cleaned the items up and then spent a weekend with our two other sisters creating pillows with bits and pieces of mom and grandma’s pattern book that we could showcase and share in the memory.
We loved the concept of displaying doilies on a quilt and had the idea to use a little leather to accentuate them. We wanted something rustic yet delicate that could be used in a cabin setting or a more eloquent bedroom. We used suede fabric with its unique sheen and accent colors in cotton prints to complement each other and showcase the crocheted doilies. We added a few old buttons and trim to enhance each quilt or pillow. And so our quest began to transform these treasured memories into something that we could enjoy into a truly one of a kind masterpiece.
